A Few Thoughts

The Best Family Photo Session :)

We are right in the middle of summer and as I prepare for my shoot this weekend in L.A., I can’t put off another day without sharing these photos I shot with the Williams Family. These guys are some of my favorite people and I was honored that they asked me to shoot their family photos for their new home. We shot the majority in downtown Frederick and some in there community at Brunswick Crossing. This was my first time in downtown Frederick and it’s really quite nice. I can see why people don’t need to go anywhere else 😉According to one of the locals “anything past Frederick is considered DC.” Works for me lol! The best part about this shoot was getting such great responses from the whole family. It’s one thing to get positive feedback from a person you’ve only spent a few hours with. But to know that your friends will cherish your work is a great feeling. Check out some of my favorite photos from day! don’t forget to follow me on Instagram!

Fair Trade Conference

One thing I enjoy when shooting conferences is that you always learn something new and interesting. Last month I was able to spend a few days shooting for Fair Trade Campaigns. It was cool to see such a diverse group of people. They had college students, business owners, older folks who has been fair trade advocates for many years. It actually made me think about where the food I buy actually comes from. Particularly coffee and other organic foods. Now, whenever I see the “fair-trade certified” label on my over priced coffee shop snack, I can smile :). The team was great to work with. I wouldn’t expect anything less, being that they’re from northern California. What’s there to not be happy about? They got the beach and mountains, the best of both worlds! Check out their website if you want to know more and of course the highlight video shot and edited by myself with the help of my Cecil.

Maryland Teacher Tutors

I had the honor of work with another fellow entrepreneur, Mrs. Natalie Mangurm. She is the founder and CEO of her tutoring company called Maryland Teacher Tutors. In all honesty, some shoots are harder than others, but Natalie’s kindness and patience made this experience so much more enjoyable. We got to shoot in her lovely home. I asked if she was a designer, but she said no. Pretty sure that’s not true because her home was immaculate. That made shooting her interview easier on my part. We spent two shooting, and during that time I got to meet the rest of her team for a little photo session. It was a great weekend and I’m glad Perspective Media got to be part of their branding process. Check out some of these behind the scenes photos taken by the wonderful Eileen Daniel and check out the video in the portfolio!

Back In L.A.

DIVA- Divinely Inspired Victoriously Aware. Last month I was back on the west coast in Los Angeles! This was an exciting event to shoot. I had the honor of shooting the highlight video for an AIDS awareness and fund raising event called Divas Simply Singing. And it’s just that! Diva’s simply singing. It was held at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood. In a nutshell, various artists are invited to volunteer their time to perform a benefit concert in order to raise awareness for aids. As most Hollywood events go, we started on the red carpet by talking to different people in the entertainment business about what the cause means to them. Followed by some great entertainment from some of the best in Hollywood, including Jennifer Holiday, Johnny Manuel, Jennifer Lewis. Actress, Sheryl Lee Ralph is the brains behind all of it. She’s been doing these annual events for almost 30 years! That’s commitment 😉 So huge thanks to Sheryl and her team for having me out! It was a great weekend full of good food, beautiful weather, and expensive gas. Gotta love it. Can’t wait to shoot the next one! Check out the video and some photos from the weekend!

Points Of interest: 1. If you have some free time, take a drive on the Pacific Coast Highway. Roll down your windows, and enjoy the fresh air. There are plenty of places to stop and park for free. The beaches are pretty clear in the winter, and you can still watch the surfers and take a walk

2. If you’re into Asian food, there is a great ramen place close to Beverly Hills called Tatsu Ramen. The nice thing about this place is that it’s open super late. 2am I think. I went there after our event was over around midnight and it was great. the lines can get long though, even at midnight. But it was the best ramen I’ve ever had. Well worth it.

Who knew That A Fitness Video Could Make You Cry?

This project was particularly fun to do because I’ve been a member of Soldierfit for a few years. So I’ve had my share of burpees and bear crawls. It was a privilege to create something for a company that I truly believe in. Amanda was absolutely amazing in telling her story. No coaching needed! We shot this over a few different days. We actually shot two videos at the same time. A franchise promo and a general promo video. You can see the franchise video on the main page. I would say the most interesting part of this project was getting the opening shot of the sign. I was actually in a “no fly zone” and I only had 17 seconds to get the shot before the drone landed itself. Thankfully there were no arrests and I got the shot with barely enough time! The video as gotten great feedback. Even my mom said that makes her want to join. So check it out now!

Calling All DC Foodies!

This Photoshoot was particularly enjoyable. Why? Food of course! I was able to shoot some marketing photos for a great sandwich spot in DC called Taylor Gourmet. As a first time food photographer, I had think differently in terms of focus. Usually people are the subject of focus, but this time it was the food. We shot a few subs in the basement of their office space where a lot of the sandwiches and ingredients are prepared. A couple staff members made the subs right on the screen so I could take the photo while everything as fresh and looking good. I was also able t try one of their hoagies after our shoot. Let’s just say I make it a point to go back to get a sandwich whenever I’m in the area.  Check out of few pictures of the shoot and you can see more of their stuff on their Instagram.

Everything is digital nowadays. So why would anyone care about paper. Newspapers are dead right? So I thought. This little factory in the quiet town southern Germany has been keeping their machines running for over a hundred years. These guys don’t just make paper from scratch, but they make very unique styles and textures that you don’t see anywhere else. They even make the envelopes for the Oscars! I had a ton of fun shooting a promotional video for them. This town is absolutely beautiful, and it’s about 30 miles outside the city of Munich. Check out the video on the main page and Gmund Paper to see more!

The Short Film

I’m calling this a short film, because it’s actually the longest video I’ve done. I’ve been working with Happy Black Woman for a little over a year now and over the summer, I had the opportunity to shoot an E:60 style story video with the founder of Happy Black Woman. We shot this over three days in Coronado, a beach town just over the San Diego Bay bridge. We shot mostly in Rosetta’s home and on the beach. Side note…if you’ve ever listened to the podcast Dirty John, this is there area where all that took place. Crazy! Anyway, we both came with a blank script and formatted the story as we went. It’s really a story of someone who came from a childhood of lack, and created their own path to success. It’s about not living in the mindset you grew up with. This is a 13 minute story, but that’s just what it is. A story. So enjoy a few of these production photos and check out the video on the main page in the portfolio section.

One of the things I love about the new year is all the positive energy it brings. I went to the gym this morning, and of course it was packed. It’s Christmas time for gyms! I always tell people that are on the fence about joining the gym I go to “The money comes out of your account either way, so make the most of it.” 2016 was a crazy year in so many ways, and it still went by fast! One of my goals is to make the most out of this year, because it will go by either way. Create opportunities, and work smart. As Miss Frizzle would say “Take chances, get messy, make mistakes!”

I’m also super excited to have the Perspective Media shirts for sale! I’ve always wanted to have my logo on a shirt, so I can check that off. You can purchase a shirt at the store right here
Here’s to making it happen in 2017!
